Step 1: Rehydrate the Cocopeat
1. Break off a section of the compressed block.
2. Add a small amount of distilled/RO water to expand it fully.
3. Fluff the moist cocopeat so it is loose, uniform, and clump-free.
Step 2: Prepare the Dilution Ratio (1:2 Volumetric Ratio)
1. Take **100 mL** (or 1 cup) of expanded, moist cocopeat.
2. Add **200 mL** (or 2 cups) of distilled or RO water.
Step 3: Mix and Steep
1. Stir or shake the mixture thoroughly for **1 to 2 minutes** to dissolve built-up sodium and potassium salts into the water.
2. Let the mixture sit undisturbed for **15 to 30 minutes** so the solution reaches electrical equilibrium.
Step 4: Extract and Measure
1. Pour the slurry through a fine mesh strainer or filter cloth into a clean container to separate the liquid extract from the fibers.
2. Measure the EC of your **pure source water** (Distilled/RO) using your Hanna meter and record it as
.
3. Submerge the Hanna meter's electrode into the filtered extract liquid.
4. Allow the reading on the display to stabilize (make sure automatic temperature compensation has adjusted). Record this as
.
Step 5: Calculate True Cocopeat EC
Subtract the base EC of your source water from the total reading![]()
